EMPATHIZE
When the 2020 pandemic disrupted our daily lives transcending all geographical, cultural and technological differences, the humanity was posed with a tremendous ethical challenge: how to work towards the preservation of life above all else?
As a response to address this fundamental question through the potentials of architectural and urban design, a workshop initiated an attempt to call for proposals as a call for action and reflection for radical improvement of current circumstances.
DEFINE
This project came out of a concern to look at the public markets -one of the essential daily needs which impacts a large population of daily wage workers- and how can design help in preserving the functioning of these markets while maintaining the COVID-19 protocols of social distancing. These markets had been identified as main contributors to the spike in COVID-19 cases -due to them being direct points of interaction.
THE PRODUCT

Voila! The result of this inquiry was a pop-up market with a vending stall that can be mass-produced and easily assembled at multiple locations across the globe. The solution is easily executable and applied without the context. It attempts to take care of the COVID-19 protocols through the details of materiality, design, and the process of making it.
DETAILS

The process of assembling the vending stall:

Design Flexibility:

COVID Responsive Features:
The design uses the below-illustrated features and strategies to make this proposal sensitive to covid-19 protocols that are required to be abided by in order to mitigate the spread of virus as we see public spaces opening for essential services

The System:
Possible ways for planning the layout of the vending stalls in an open space that would make up the make-shift market place.
